Living a spiritual life, does not mean we must sequester ourselves away from everyday life. Nor can we spend hours in deep meditation, it is not a case of choosing to be either Martha or Mary, but, to be a combination of both.
Let us face facts, for those who have full time jobs, and stay at homes moms, time is limited, but, that does not mean we must spend no time in prayer! For we do seem to find the time to watch the TV, we make time to spend on our computers, and for those who love books, they find the time to read. Why is it then that when it comes to God, we claim a lack of time?
Time is precious, yet it is also of the essence. God knows this and it is why He seeks our time. It is why He calls our spirit to spend time with Him in solitude, in the quietness of the heart. For how we spend our time on earth will define where we spend our eternity. God is also aware of this, so like a Loving Father, He calls His children in order to give them the Graces they need to live a wholesome and Holy life.
This is an era where everything is at our finger tips, where we live a fast paced lifestyle in an attempt to have the best of everything. An era in a never ending pursuit of seeking that which can only give us a vicarious thrill. An era of having the latest gadget, the best designer labels, all the things that are supposed to be vital for our happiness. Yet this is also the era of the thriving therapist industry, where rows of self help books are written in order to help us achieve a 'quality life'.
Then why are so many people feeling so empty, what is missing?
God does not call us to spend time with Him for His sake, He calls us for our sake, for the peace we seek can only be found with God. No other source can give us this much needed serenity, tranquility and peace of heart. This can only be found with The Triune Spirit.
To live a spiritual life is to live in awareness of God's Presence, and in that awareness to keep our hearts open to The Holy Spirit. To incorporate everything we do under Divine inspiration, so that nothing is wasted. So, everything we do then, becomes ennobled for love of God, and not for any self seeking praise.
Love should never become a 'duty' nor should we limit God's Action in our lives, by spending allotted times with Him as if He must wait upon us. For our Heavenly Father calls us into relationship, it is we His children that turn that relationship into a 'ritual' as if that were a viable alternative.
In the end have we become too busy for God?
Peace of Christ to you ALL.
